Event Details
Ischemic heart disease remains the leading cause of death in women globally. Alarming
trends such as the rise in acute myocardial infarction in younger women, an overall stagnation
of the cardiovascular disease mortality decline, and an increase of cardiovascular disease
mortality in women from certain countries over recent years have been documented. Many
sex- and gender-related differences exist at the time women present with coronary artery
disease. Differences in clinical presentation, coronary anatomy and plaque morphology
amongst others result in challenges for the evaluation of coronary artery disease in women.
This symposium will explore sex- and gender-specific considerations, inform about current
evidence and propose strategies to address sex and gender disparities in the evaluation of
women with coronary artery disease.
